Sam Leavitt Ruled Out For Season After Foot Injury

Look away, Arizona State fans.

Starting quarterback Sam Leavitt will miss the remainder of the season for the Sun Devils due to a foot injury, coach Kenny Dillingham confirmed on Friday.

The 2024 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year will have surgery to repair a lingering foot injury, the coach said to Bickley & Marotta Mornings on 98.7 FM. The 20-year-old first suffered the knock in ASU’s road victory against Baylor in Week 4.

“It’s definitely something that’s been lingering all year,” Dillingham said during the week. “It’s definitely something that could definitely turn into that (long term) for sure, just because it hasn’t progressed like we hoped. He’s been dealing with this for pretty much the whole year.”

The quarterback sat out of ASU’s last road game against Utah at the start of October. Leavitt suffered another knock last Saturday in the Sun Devils’ home loss against Houston, exiting the game early in the first quarter. He returned to the field and played before being taken out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Dillingham’s side lost the match 24-16, snapping a 10-game winning streak at home.

Last season, Leavitt led the team to an 11-3 overall record and won the Big 12 Championship in his first season as the starting quarterback. Leavitt threw 2,885 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in 2024, playing in all but one regular-season game leading up to the title.

Redshirt senior Jeff Sims will start this Saturday against Iowa State.
