OAKLAND, CA - JULY 17: Cliff Pennington #2 of the Oakland Athletics gets his throw off to complete the double play, avoiding the slide of Russell Branyan #39 of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the eighth inning during an MLB baseball game at the O.co Coliseum July 17, 2011 in Oakland, California. Russell Branyon may have faced high heat at the plate during his 13-season Major League Baseball career, but that didn’t stop him from lowering someone else’s heat.
Branyon reportedly broke into his ex-wife’s home and removing some of her property. But, before he left, he “tampered with the thermostat inside of the home, making it extremely cold,” according to a warrant issued in Davidson County, Tenn. The former first baseman later called his ex saying he wanted to return the things he took.
This isn’t the first incident between Branyon and his former wife Jill. In 2008, he was charged with assaulting her in a car; charges were dropped after he pleaded no contest and completed a diversion program.
