Russ Wilson Should Be A Hall Of Fame First Ballot Contender

Russell Wilson is now retired after one of the most accomplished quarterback careers of the past 15 years. There were seasons when the Seattle Seahawks didn’t seem destined for success, but Wilson—especially in the fourth quarter—would lead dramatic comebacks, often putting the team on his shoulders. Even after the Legion of Boom era, he carried teams that had no business contending for a championship.

Wilson’s playing career included several elite seasons with the Seattle. He spent 10 seasons in Seattle, becoming the winningest quarterback in franchise history. Wilson earned nine Pro Bowl selections, led the Seahawks to two Super Bowl appearances and helped the franchise win its first Super Bowl in 2013.

Some might remember Wilson being traded to the Denver Broncos in 2022, where he struggled to replicate his Seattle success. He lasted just two seasons in Denver before the Broncos moved on and drafted quarterback Bo Nix out of Oregon. Wilson then played one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and later with the New York Giants before retiring. He will now join CBS as an analyst.

Wilson is one of the more underappreciated quarterbacks of his era, especially for his achievements in Seattle. He should be a Hall of Fame candidate—and deserves first-ballot consideration. He retires with more than 50,000 passing yards, over 350 touchdown passes and one of the highest winning percentages among quarterbacks of his era.

Beyond football, Wilson has made a significant impact off the field. Along with his wife, singer Ciara, he has contributed to children’s hospitals and supported numerous community initiatives.

He is widely regarded as the greatest Seahawks quarterback of all time and now stands among the most successful quarterbacks of his generation—a true Seattle legend.
