Rory McIlroy Destroys Wells Fargo Championship Tournament Record

On Sunday, number one golfer in the world Rory McIlroy won the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship with ease, winning his second PGA Tour title in his last three tournaments.

Despite somewhat struggling on the first day, bogeying on the second and eleventh holes, he soon caught fire. He proceeded to hit a 67 in the second round, a course record 61 in the third and he easily maintained the lead with a 69 in the fourth: the closest players, Webb Simpson and Patrick Rodgers, were seven strokes behind.

On top of his amazing third round, his 21-under score set a tournament record, destroying the previous one set in 2008 by Anthony Kim (16-under). But these were not the only records that the 26-year-old destroyed at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Next, he broke the birdie record in the fourth round, putting in 26 of them by the 14th hole: he would finish with 27. And finally, he has the most PGA Tour wins by a foreign player under 30 in tour history. He passed Gary Player with his eleventh win at the Wells Fargo Championship. And Rory is only 26 years old, giving him plenty of time to pad this feat.

He will next compete at the BMW PGA Championship and then the Irish Open. He is not going to play in another PGA Tour event until he defends his title at the 2015 U.S. Open, which is scheduled to begin on June 18.
