Robbie Maddison, X Games Star, On How He… by uSports
X Games superstar Robbie Maddison is a legend in the motorcycle community. For over a decade, the Australian has been performing some of the wildest motorcycle stunts the world has ever seen and has also been a regular at the X Games. He’s the holder of the world record for the longest motorcycle jump and even won awards for his work as a stunt double. So how does Maddison, one of the stars of the upcoming film On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter, take on fear?
“I 100% feel scared,” Maddison told uSports in an exclusive interview about his stunts. “I’m by no means Superman or a freak of nature. I just take it seriously and for me, to be able to get to this level and to do these jumps and face the fears I face, I had to grow as an individual and I had to go to my depths of my inner core to ask ‘do I really want to do this?'”
“One of the main things I do, which motorcyclists do naturally, is they take it to the moment,” he continued. “You can’t be thinking about what you’re getting on your tax return when you’re riding a motorcycle through the jungle at 100 MPH.” He added that you need to be “one with your bike” in order to get a full sense of what’s going on around you.
For Maddison, having a gameplan is the best way for him to be at ease. “I kinda cross off the things that can go wrong,” he said, “and have a strategy in place to make sure I don’t make mistakes.”
Ultimately, Maddison’s best method of removing any fear is to just ignore it altogether.
“When fear comes knocking at the door, I just don’t answer the door.”
