Gronkowski after winning Super Bowl LIII in February 2019
Former Patriots’ tight end and three-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski has reportedly signed a deal to join the WWE. The report also mentioned that Gronkowski will make his debut on March 20’s episode of Smackdown and will make an appearance at Wrestlemania on April 5, according to a company insider. Contract terms have not been disclosed.
The 30-year-old had previously participated in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 33 in 2017, running into the ring to help WWE wrestler and real-life friend Mojo Rawley win the match. In August, Gronkowski said he’d be interested in doing a special match at WWE in “maybe five years” but admitted he didn’t see himself becoming a full-time wrestler.

“With wrestling, I don’t feel like I would be a full-time wrestler, but there is one thing I’m down for,” Gronkowski said. “And that’s to do one crazy match. Practice it for a little bit, go out there – like in a Royal Rumble – go out there, I got my friend in WWE [Rawley], practice it and do a full-on WWE match. I’m not saying when, maybe five years. I got the rest of my life to do that. I’ve always dreamed about doing that, just one time, going in there and going full-out. That may be a possibility, one time, down the road.”

Rawley caught up with ESPN in October and said the prospect of Gronkowski joining WWE was not impossible. “Hey, man, we’ve got SummerSlam in Boston [this coming August],” Rawley said. “Maybe we’ll do a tag match. I’ve been doing my own thing, but for him, maybe I’ll do a tag match.”
WWE Executives Stephanie McMahon and Paul “Triple H” Levesque were in attendance at the five-time Pro Bowler’s Super Bowl beach party in February, and Lavesque tweeted a photo of the group referencing SummerSlam, a popular pay-per-view that takes place in Boston this year. Now, we’ll see what “Gronk” has in store for his next career.
