Report: Eagles QB Sam Bradford Says He Wants To Be Traded

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford has said he wants out of Philly and has sworn to not participate in the team’s off-season conditioning program, according to a published report on Monday.

Report: Eagles QB Sam Bradford Says He Wants To Be Traded

According to ESPN, Bradford is seeking a trade just days after the Eagles made a trade with the Cleveland Browns that gave them the expected No. 2 Draft Pick, star North Dakota QB Carson Wentz.  The first round of the NFL Draft begins on Thursday.

Bradford, 28, re-signed with the Eagles in March as part of a two-year deal that had a maximum value of $40 million with $22 million guaranteed. The Eagles acquired Bradford, a 2010 first-round draft pick out of Oklahoma, in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams (then St. Louis) in exchange for Nick Foles before the beginning of the 2015 season.

The Rams, which also moved up in the draft, are also a near lock to select a quarterback with the first overall pick. The consensus top two quarterback prospects are Wentz and Cal’s Jared Goff.

The Eagles grabbed the No. 2 overall selection last Wednesday. The Browns received the Eagles’ first-round pick (No. 8), a third-rounder (No. 77) and fourth-round selection in this year’s draft along with Philly’s first-round pick in 2017 and a second-round selection in 2018. The Eagles also received a fourth-round selection in the 2017 draft as part of the deal.

Bradford’s agent, Tom Condon, explained the QB’s reasons for wanting to leave Philadelphia in a recent interview with Sirius XM Radio.

“None of this is personal, it’s just business. So from our perspective, Sam wants the opportunity to try and go some place where he can be the starter and not only be the starter but be the starter a long time,” Condon said. “If you’re on a two-year contract and the second pick in the draft is behind you, then you better really play well because you’re going to hear it from the fans if you don’t. You better play well or your teammates are going to be looking at you sideways and wondering when the next guy is going to step in.”

“From that standpoint the other players understand you’re a short-term guy. Even if you play well, because you can of course be traded before your contract expires.

Bradford started 14 games last season. The Eagles went 7-7 in his starts. He completed 65 percent of his pass attempts, throwing for 3,725 yards with 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
