Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Seeks Super Bowl, Still Motivated By 2019 Wild Card Loss

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson led his team to the top seed in the AFC, earning a first-round bye. But Jackson, still haunted by last year’s wild card loss, says his motivation is to erase the bitter memory.

The Ravens lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 23-17 in what would be Jackson’s worst career start. He threw for 3 of 9 for 25 yards in the first three quarters. A late fourth quarter push wasn’t enough to propel Baltimore forward.

“That game still motivates me,” Jackson said. “I still haven’t played my second playoff game yet…That game is over with. We’ve been having a great year this year. We just got to keep it going. I want a Super Bowl. I’m not worried about that. That was my rookie season.

The former Heisman Trophy winner is the front-runner for the NFL MVP this year and became the first player in NFL history to throw for 3,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards. He also tacked on 43 touchdowns.

Jackson doesn’t care much for the accolades. “I want a Super Bowl. All the accolades and stuff like that, I’ll cherish that another time. I’m trying to chase something else right now.”

“The Heisman [Trophy], I still just have that in the box right now”, he added.

Having suffered from the flu, Jackson says he is healthy and has since returned to practice.

Despite all else, his bigger concern is where offensive coordinator Greg Roman will end up. Roman interviewed with the Cleveland Browns about their head coaching spot on Thursday night.

“They need to chill out,” Jackson responded. “We got something to do right now. We need him to focus because we need to focus. We’re trying to get somewhere. You guys are going to have your own turn when the season is over with.”
