Texas Rangers’ left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin earned his first win of the season on Wednesday, as the Rangers beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1.
However, it was a start that Corbin nearly missed due to a venomous bite on his foot. A bite that he described as “very swollen” made it difficult for him to walk.
“They said something bit me, but I still don’t know what it was,” Corbin said. “I’ve never had anything like that.”
Despite the hiccup, the former All-Star pitched five innings. He gave up five hits and had six strikeouts.

“We weren’t even sure if he was going to pitch,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. “He was 50/50 on whether he would make the start or not.”
The bite remains sore and swollen, according to Corbin. However, Corbin is not expected to miss any time and will remain in the pitching rotation. His performance on Wednesday is indicative of his ability, despite a venomous bite.
The Rangers completed a series sweep of the Angels on Thursday. They host a series against the Dodgers starting on Friday.
The team is currently 12-7 and in first place in the AL West.
