After the Las Vegas Raiders talked tough this offseason about COVID, especially head coach Jon Gruden lied to his team that he had been infected with the virus in order to scare them into taking it seriously. It didn’t work. There was a viral moment earlier this season where several Raiders players were seen at a charity event not wearing masks and recently offensive lineman Trent Brown has tested positive for COVID-19 and is quarantining putting their week seven matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in jeopardy. Now, they may force the NFL to extend their season. So far, there have been no more positive tests for the Raiders.
Many are wondering what repercussions the Raiders will face, if any. The NFL decided not to penalize the Tennessee Titans who were the first team to have a major COVID breakout and reportedly broke many league protocols and held off-site practices. So, either the NFL will stay consistent and not penalize teams for their mistakes, or they finally will put their foot down and decide to levy a serious penalty against one fo the NFL’s most negligent teams.
