In 2008, then-New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress unfortunately solidified his place in pop culture. During an evening at a New York City night club, Burress’ hand gun began to slide down the leg of his jeans; when he tried to grab it, he inadvertently hit the trigger, shooting himself in the leg.
The former NFL player is in trouble with the law again. This week, he entered a guilty plea with the New Jersey Superior Court on the charge of tax evasion; he reportedly failed to pay $46,000 in state taxes on his $1 million income in 2013. As part of his plea deal, prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer.
The receiver could face as many as five years of probation when he is sentenced in early 2016. He will have to pay roughly $56,000 in restitution and penalties and, if he fails to repay the money, could face a 364-day county jail term.
