Philadelphia sports fans are passionate. Alec Bohm found that out the hard way Monday evening.
The Phillies third baseman made three errors in the first three innings against the Mets, which understandably got the Philly faithful on his case.
However, his frustration spilled over as he could be seen saying “I f***ing hate this place” to a teammate while walking off the field between innings:
“I said it. Do I mean it? No,” Bohm said. “It’s a frustrating night for me, obviously. Made a few mistakes in the field. Look, these people, these fans, they just want to win. You heard it, we come back, they’re great. I’m just sorry to them. I don’t mean that.”

Perhaps all is forgiven, as the Phils rallied for five runs in the eighth to win 5-4. It should be noted that the Mets failed to score an unearned run off any of Bohm’s errors.
J.T. Realmuto had a two-run homer, while Rhys Hoskins and Didi Gregorius added run-scoring doubles. But, of course, the story of the evening was Bohm’s f-bomb.
“I think it’s a kid that was frustrated,” Phillies manager Joe Girardi said. “I don’t think that kid was referring to, you know, the city of Philadelphia, the fans. I think he was referring to the situation he was in. Put yourself in his shoes.”
