HOUSTON, TEXAS - DECEMBER 01: Jarrett Stidham #4 of the New England Patriots warms up prior to the game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on December 01, 2019 in Houston, Texas.
All must be forgiven for the Tuck Rule game, as the New England Patriots are trading backup QB Jarrett Stidham to the Las Vegas Raiders. The teams will flip late-round draft picks in the deal, sources say.
Once the heir apparent to future Fox analyst Tom Brady, Stidham will fight for a backup role behind Derek Carr in the silver and black. Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert will be his competition.
Raiders first-year coach Josh McDaniels was Stidham’s offensive coordinator in New England the past three seasons, so that may have had something to do with the deal.
Stidham—who has one year remaining on his contract with a base salary of $965,000—was set to be New England’s QB following Brady’s departure in 2020, but the team signed Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer won the backup role.
