Despite what a social media post may have led some to believe, Jimmy Garoppolo is staying with the New England Patriots.
Early Friday morning, a post on the quarterback’s Instagram page read: “So grateful for my time in New England. Peace out Boston.”
The internet immediately went abuzz, although Garoppolo’s agent stated his client’s account was hacked.
“Jimmy’s social media account was hacked,” agent Don Yee told ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

When asked about a potential trade involving Garoppolo, a source close to the quarterback responded to Reiss, “not to my knowledge.”
The post was deleted approximately five hours after it surfaced.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots plan to keep Garoppolo, Tom Brady’s backup, for 2017 and potentially later as well as Brady is just five months away from his 40th birthday.
Brady stated, following the Patriots’ Super Bowl LI win over the Atlanta Falcons in February, that he wishes to continue playing football until well into his 40s.
There are “no trade talks” involving Garoppolo and the Cleveland Browns at the moment, sources told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. The Browns were rumored to be pursuing Garoppolo, but instead acquired quarterback Brock Osweiler in a trade with the Houston Texans on Thursday, the first day of NFL free agency. Cleveland also received a 2018 second-round pick as part of the deal, and swapped one other draft pick with Houston.
