The New England Patriots are bringing back a Super Bowl hero!
No, not him.
The team signed veteran cornerback Malcolm Butler to a two-year deal worth up to $9 million.
The 32-year-old signed with the Pats as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama in 2014 and, of course, made the game-winning interception in Super Bowl XLIX at the end of his rookie year. He won another title in New England in Super Bowl LI, but his inexplicable benching in Super Bowl LII—a loss in which the defense gave up 538 yards of offense to the Eagles—remains a mystery.

Butler left the team in free agency that offseason and went to Tennessee on a five-year, $61 million deal. He was released last March but signed with the Cardinals on a one-year pact. He retired in August and never played a snap for Arizona, though.
Now he’ll get a comeback shot in the place where his career started.
