Padres Acquire Juan Soto In Blockbuster Trade – And Fans Sympathize For The Nationals

The San Diego Padres made a huge splash today by acquiring Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals.

Additionally, the Padres also received Josh Bell in the package.

The Nationals in return for its superstar and Bell got the following players back:

  • C.J. Abrams (SS)
  • Robert Hassell III (OF)
  • James Wood (OF)
  • Jarlin Susana (RHP)
  • Luke Voit (1B)
  • Mackenzie Gore (LHP)

Arguably the biggest piece of the trade was 21-year-old Abrams, who was ranked 10th best MLB team-owned prospect by CBS this spring.

Also, Gore was once a top 10 MLB prospect.

He is currently on the injured list with an elbow injury and has a 4.50 earned runs average (ERA) in the majors this year.

Hasell is ranked as the 21st best prospect on MLB.com’s list.

The Athletic’s Keith Law called the National’s prospect haul for Soto and Bell, the “biggest” he’s ever seen.

Here are some top reactions to the trade today.

One writer revealed the harsh reality of the Nationals and what could have been.

“Can’t get over the Nationals having: Bryce Harper Anthony Rendon Max Scherzer Trea Turner Juan Soto,” Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic wrote.

“All gone in a matter of a few years.”

A Padres fan said: “This might be the happiest I’ve ever been with the Padres. This moment. Right now. Killing the Rockies. Soto, Hader, Bell, Hosmer. All of it.

Another sympathized for the Nationals who will have to face two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom tonight.

“With Soto traded, looks like deGrom gets one more minor league rehab tonight.”

And here are some more top reactions:

Next up, the Padres hope that the move will help them contend for a World Series this year.

Currently, the Padres sit second in the NL wild card 12 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
