Packers Upset Cowboys, Set To Face 49ers In Divisional Round

As over seven-point underdogs, everyone expected the Green Bay Packers season to end in Dallas on Sunday night.

It was the Dallas Cowboys whose season ended on Sunday.

For the Cowboys, this game continued several unappealing trends. Losing early and at home in the playoffs after a positive season isn’t uncommon for Dallas, as they have lost in either the divisional or wildcard round in each of their last 13 playoff appearances. All the hope and promise from a 12-5 record and NFC East division championship was lost in one night. Perhaps the superstitious trends and pre-game vibes were what overcame these statistical odds.

It could also be due to several superstar performances from Packers players.

After clinching a playoff position in their regular season finale, Packers quarterback Jordan Love surprised many NFL experts in his first career playoff game with 272 yards, three touchdown passes and no interceptions. To follow the legendary careers of Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers Love had a lot of work to do to earn the respect of Packers fans. Now, he has them believing that they just might have hit the quarterback lottery again.

The Packer’s opening drive was flawless. Twelve plays, 75 yards and an Aaron Jones touchdown cracked open a 7-0 lead, which would only grow as the game went on. Jones would go on to score three touchdowns and rush for 118 yards in the game.

The Packers followed up that opening drive with three more unanswered touchdowns and went into the locker room with a 27-7 lead after Dak Prescott threw a touchdown to tight-end Jake Ferguson on the last play of the first half.

In the second half, the 20-point lead was inflated to 32 as the Packers led by a score of 48-16 in the fourth quarter, and the Cowboys’ late attempt at a dramatic comeback ultimately fell short. The deficit was too much to make up in such little time. The game ended 48-32.

There are now eight teams left in the NFL season. The number seven-seeded Green Bay Packers will go on to face the number one-seeded San Francisco 49ers and are already massive underdogs again. This time, they are expected to lose by ten points.
