No. 16 Penn Vs. Midwest No. 1 Kansas, NCAA Tourney Round 1 (March 15, 2018): Game Time Start, TV Channel Info

Penn (24-8) has landed as the No. 16 seed on the Midwest region bracket of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, and the Quakers will visit top-seeded Kansas in a first-round matchup on Thursday.

Penn vs. Kansas NCAA Tournament Round 1 preview

Quakers coach Steve Donahue recently found himself reflecting on his time as head coach he Cornell, where faced Bill Self and the Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse in Kansas in 2010.

“It was a great basketball game and memorable for our guys for sure,” said Donahue during a phone interview with the Journal-World, referring to a 71-66 KU victory that wasn’t decided until the game’s final minute.

That Cornell squad ended up reaching the 2010 Sweet 16, powered by one of the top offenses in the nation. Donahue revealed his offensive approach hasn’t changed since then.

Nevertheless, Penn’s offense does not rank nearly as well.

Thursday’s game against the Jayhawks in Wichita will begin at 1pm EST and will air on TBS.

Penn also boasts the second-best 3-point percentage defense in the country — opponents have made just 28.9 percent from behind the arc versus Penn.

Virginia, Villanova and Xavier are the three other regional top seeds in this year’s men’s basketball tourney, whose first round begins Thursday, although First Four games will be held Tuesday and Friday.
