It was in no way, shape, or form a Little League move from the Big League club.
The New York Mets put three bats on the wall outside their clubhouse Tuesday to honor Lazar LaPenna, a 10-year-old who died Friday during a Little League game in Long Beach. He suffered an epileptic seizure while running to first base and collapsed at Point Lookout Park.
“We send our love and support to his family and teammates in the Long Beach/Lido Little League,” the Mets said on social media.
Long Island residents, too, left bats outside their homes this week and many across the country posted to social media with the hashtag #BatsOutForLazar to remember the fourth grader.
