NCAA Investigating Michigan Wolverines Football Over Sign-Stealing

The Michigan Wolverines football program is being investigated by the NCAA following accusations of sign-stealing.

The University of Michigan and the Big Ten have been notified by the NCAA of the investigation. The probe also includes allegations of similar violations in the 2022 season

While the NCAA doesn’t specifically have any rules against stealing signs, it does prohibit advance scouting of opponents and bylaws prohibiting unsportsmanlike activities.

Michigan allegedly had people attend games of future opponents to gather information on signs used to call both offensive and defensive plays.

The Wolverines may have violated NCAA bylaw 11.6.1, which states, “Off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited.”

Many coaches want to use helmet communication as a way to protect signs, which the NFL has used since 1994. College Football has not yet implemented this change.

The number 2 ranked Michigan, who are undefeated at 8-0, blew out in-state rivals Michigan State on Sunday, 49-0.
