NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace Calls For Banning Of Confederate Flags At Races

Prior to Sunday’s NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace wore a shirt that read, “I Can’t Breathe/Black Lives Matter,” in support of the nationwide protests in the United States. Wallace is the only black driver who races full-time for NASCAR and now wants to see more change at NASCAR races.

While speaking with CNN on Monday, Wallace said that he wants to get rid of all Confederate flags at NASCAR races. “My next step would be to get rid of all Confederate flags,” he said. “No one should feel uncomfortable when they come to a NASCAR race. So it starts with Confederate flags. Get them out of here. They have no place for them.… There’s going to be a lot of angry people that carry those flags proudly, but it’s time for change. We have to change that, and I encourage NASCAR –– we will have those conversations to remove those flags.”

A video was released on Twitter featuring numerous NASCAR drivers saying that now is a time for change, similar to the one released by NFL players.

The 26-year-old Wallace says that he used to be not bothered by the Confederate flag being at races, but given everything that has happened in recent weeks, Wallace feels that there should not be a discussion and the flags should be removed.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Wallace will be honoring the Black Lives Matter movement with a special car during his next race.

This season, Wallace has three top-10 finishes in NASCAR Cup Series Races and is 22nd in the standings.
