MLB Extends Trevor Bauer’s Administrative Leave After Sexual Assault Allegations

The MLB announced that Trevor Bauer‘s administrative leave has been extended by seven days.

“With the agreement of the Players Association, MLB has extended Trevor Bauer’s placement on Administrative Leave for an additional 7 days, effective tomorrow. MLB’s investigation is ongoing,” the tweet said.

The statement was made while the league and the Pasadena Police Department continue their separate investigations into sexual assault allegations made against Bauer. A woman accused the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher of assaulting her earlier this year, twice. The woman alleges that the pitcher choked her until she lost consciousness on multiple occasions, punched her in several areas of her body and left her with injuries that required hospitalizations. These incidents allegedly happened over the course of two sexual encounters this year.

The first encounter occurred in April, and the victim alleges that the pitcher choked her unconscious and penetrated her anally without consent. The second encounter occurred in May. The woman said that Bauer choked her unconscious, and when she regained consciousness, the pitcher was repeatedly punching her in the head. The hits to the head landed the woman in the emergency room with severe trauma.

The victim underwent two medical examinations, one at the Alvarado Hospital Medical Center in San Diego on May 16 and another at Palomar Health in Escondido, California. In her second medical examination, she had a sexual assault response team (SART) exam, which included medical professionals photographing her entire body.

The woman provided those pictures to the court. The pictures showed her face “visibly bruised and swollen, including under both of her eyes. She also has a swollen jaw, bloodied lip, and scratches to the side of her face.”

The victim already filed for a domestic violence ex parte restraining order against Bauer. It was granted on June 28. An ex parte is a temporary restraining order that prevents the accused from immediately responding in court. Instead, the accused is notified of the allegations, and given a formal hearing with the opportunity to respond at a later date to refute the allegations.
