Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach Rick Pitino has suspended three guards on his team—Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason, and Dupree McBrayer–for the remainder of the season, after a sexually explicit video surfaced on Dorsey’s social media accounts.
Pitino announced the punishment Tuesday in a statement issued by the university, which called his decision “the best thing for the basketball program” in an attempt to “build a strong and respectful culture.”
The video was posted Friday on Dorsey’s Instagram and Twitter feeds, which were both disabled approximately a half-hour later.
The three players were benched during the team’s 84-71 road loss to Illinois on Sunday because of the video, according to a person with knowledge of the case who spoke to the Associated Press Monday on the condition of anonymity.
