Legendary boxer Mike Tyson has called for a boycott of Hulu after their announcement to publish a series about him without compensation.
Tyson took to Instagram to call out the streaming service after they announced the airing of the limited series Iron Mike. Tyson posted a picture of the Hulu logo canceled out with the caption, “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising.” The boxer continued to criticize the company by writing, “This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.” The boxer finished the statement with the following, “To make this announcement during Black History Month only confirms Hulu’s concern for dollars over respect for black story rights.”
Hulu’s Iron Mike series is created by Oscar-winning writer Steven Rogers. The series will be joined by Margot Robbie, who will serve as the show’s executive director. Karin Gist will be the showrunner and executive producer, alongside Craig Gillespie. Hulu has ordered eight episodes of the show to be produced and the show will center around the moments and controversies of the iconic boxing legend.
