The Brazilian soccer star will now become the first footballer to feature the basketball legend’s iconic ‘Jumpman’ logo on his boots.

Jordan’s legendary No. 23 is prominent on the back of the boot along with No. 10, the number Neymar wears when representing his country.

The two athletes reportedly decided to collaborate on the new boot due to the mutual respect they share thanks to their achievements in their respective sports.

Nike football design director Nathan VanHook said of the shoe: ‘The Jordan V is very iconic and has the fighter jet shark teeth on the front.’

Jordan’s brand will also release a Neymar edition of the Jordan V Low with the Barcelona striker’s name stitched inside the tongue. Neymar also put the initials of his son DL (David Lucca) and the Brazil flag on the boot.

“I’m excited that Neymar and the Jordan Brand are working together,” Jordan, 53, said of the partnership. “I’m a fan of his creativity, style, and passion for the game of soccer. He’s a special player and I look forward to this collaboration.”

Neymar then added: ‘Michael Jordan set the standard for greatness. He’s an incredible competitor and a champion. I’ve always admired him, so to collaborate with him and have his icon on my boots means a great deal to me.’ He then posted this picture of him with Jordan on Instagram, adding the caption: “THE GREATEST!!! Dream fulfilled, what an honor to meet this guy… (in Portuguese)’

Neymar, 24, is currently on vacation in America, and will debut his new customized boot at this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio. He will sit out the US-hosted Copa America, which begins on Friday, to concentrate on representing his country at the Olympics on his home soil.

The boot, which has a price tag of £132 ($190), is available for purchase on Nike.com beginning June 3.
