Luka Doncic Sparks Controversy From Third Quarter Dust-Up With Celtics Owner

So far, in the NBA Finals, the Mavericks have not had much to say as they find themselves down 2-0, but Luka Doncic continues to bark.

His most recent conversation happened with Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grosbeck, who sits in the first row of his team’s games. According to The Athletic’s Jay King, Grosbeck lobbied for a technical foul on Doncic before the SG knocked down a shot on the ensuing possession and let Grosbeck know during the third quarter of game two. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban sits in the second row of the team’s bench.

When meeting with the media for his postgame availability, Doncic denied the spat between them by answering, “I’m sorry, I don’t know who is the Celtics owner…” and denying any interaction or animosity between them. Whether the 25-year-old lied or actually did not know about Grosbeck’s ownership remains to be seen.

Known for their antics, the Boston crowd has been particularly hostile to Dallas. Kyrie Irving, a former Celtic player, gets booed every time he touches the ball and went back and forth with the home crowd multiple times during game two. The Celtic fans have been more careful when taunting Doncic because of his history of raising his game when motivated by away arenas, but that did not stop Grosbeck. In the postseason, the Mavericks are 8-4 away from home.

Dallas will be dying to get out of Boston after falling behind 2-0 and never holding a lead in either of the fourth quarters of the first two games. They return home for game three with their backs against the wall as the Celtics head into a hostile environment. Las Vegas believes that the change in scenery should work wonders for Dallas as they opened as slight -2.5 point favorites, according to Hard Rock Bet.
