The Los Angeles Angels have acquired veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler from the St. Louis Cardinals. The trade occurred on Thursday, but the Angles will send either cash or a player to the Cardinals in exchange for Fowler.
Adding Fowler to the Angels’ roster will bring more positives. The 34-year-old outfielder will bring veteran presence and leadership to the team, something they need for their young developing players. The team plans to have Fowler play right field since he is able to play all three outfield positions.

By adding the veteran to the lineup, the Angels will have more freedom to give Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh more minor league development time. Last season, Adell made his Major League Baseball debut but struggled. The 21-year-old finished his rookie season hitting .161 in over 38 games. The team wants to give Adell more time to develop. General manager Perry Minasian has high hopes for him. “We think Jo is going to have an outstanding career, and we feel like at some point this year, he’s going to impact this club,” Minasian said.

Last season, Fowler had a batting average of .233, 15 RBI’s, and 21 home runs. Minasian agreed that Fowler will impact the team in a positive way, “We like [Fowler] in the right field, and we feel like offensively he’s going to bring a lot to the lineup,” he said.
Time will tell how this acquisition pays off for the Angels.
