When the NBA returned to action in the Orlando bubble, league officials and players made it clear that an important factor in their return was bringing attention to issues of racial injustice and police brutality on a national platform. So far, they have stuck to their word with the majority of players and staff kneeling during the national anthem, as well as players making social justice statements during postgame interviews. On Tuesday night, Lakers’ superstar LeBron James showed up to the arena in Orlando wearing a modified MAGA-looking hat with a powerful statement calling for the arrest of the officers who killed Breonna Taylor in Kentucky when they broke into the wrong apartment executing a search warrant.
LeBron commented, “Taylor had a bright future and her life was taken away from her and there’ve been no arrests and no justice, not only for her but for her family. And we want to continue to shed light on that situation, which was unjust. That’s what it’s about.”
