In a tragic day for the Los Angeles Lakers as their star player, LeBron James, will miss at least one week due to an abdominal strain.
James suffered the injury during the Lakers’ 119-117 victory over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night. The 36-year-old, soon-to-be 37-year-old, James has already missed two of the Lakers’ first eight games through their 5-3 start this season. And now, he has missed another game, making it the third time already this season, but Lakers coach Frank Vogel didn’t confirm reports that the four-time league MVP will be out for at least a week.
“Any time LeBron’s out and he’s going to miss some time, there’s obviously concern,” Vogel said. “Hopefully this is something that’s minimal, and hopefully he’ll be back soon.”
League sources told ESPN, that James’ ailment ─ a rectus abdominis strain ─ will sideline him for at least one week. He previously was ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder due to an abdominal issue.

The Thunders rallied from a 19-point deficit to beat Los Angeles for the second time this season, both times without James who also missed the October 27 game against the Thunder with a sore right ankle. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 11 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and hit a deep dagger to fuel OKC’s comeback win.
James has played in the last three games, a string that came after he missed back-to-back games. He averaged 23.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game while shooting 46.8% overall and 15% on 3-pointers. Overall, he is averaging 24.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 7.0 apg this season.
If James is unable to suit up for one week, he will miss the Lakers’ upcoming matchups against the Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat. If LeBron continues to miss games, who knows if the Lakers will have an opportunity to rebound their losses and shoot for the championship.
