LeBron James spoke about his feelings following Wednesday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol. The 36-year-old watched from home as Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building, as Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
Following the Los Angles Lakers loss on Thursday night to the San Antonio Spurs, the superstar forward was asked about the insurrection. James called it “embarrassing” saying, “Yesterday was shameful.” “We are supposed to be setting an example for all other countries on how to run things and change the world, and yesterday we looked like a third-, fourth-, fifth-world country,” James said.
James was wearing a shirt with the words “Do you understand now” on it. The four-time NBA champion touched upon the meaning behind the words saying, “You will never understand the feeling of being a black man and woman in America.”
James remarked about the contributions that black Americans have had for the nation. “Everyone jumps on the bandwagon of what we provide, what we bring, how we dress, our music, our culture, our food,” James said. “We don’t get our due diligence or anything back to his country except a slap in the face.”

The Laker superstar is a strong critic of President Trump. “He doesn’t care about this country or his family,” James said. “We’ve literally just [thrown] away four years.”
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who also is a critic of Trump, supported James’ remarks. Popovich added to what James vocalized, “I believe with all my heart that Trump enjoyed it.” The coach went further to support the use of the 25th Amendment to have Trump removed from office. “I don’t think it’s so far fetched for people to start talking about the 25th Amendment,” Popovich said.
The coach praised the superstar, “As a human being, a citizen and someone who looks at the social issues of our time, he doesn’t do it with hate, he just tells the truth.”
