Los Angeles Dodger’s first baseman Cody Bellinger has undergone surgery from a shoulder injury that occurred thanks to a home run celebration.
The injury occurred during game seven of the NLCS between the Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the seventh inning as the game was tied at three. The injury occurred during his homerun celebration with his teammates.
The celebration looked harmless but apparently not – it required Bellinger to undergo surgery for a dislocated right shoulder. Although he was injured, he still remained on their World Series roster. The first basemen should be expected to recover for about 10 weeks. This will enable him to be ready for the start of spring training.
Bellinger had a subpar 2020 season with the Dodgers. He had a batting average of .239 in the pandemic-shortened baseball season. In 2019, he hit a fantastic .305 batting average. It seemed that his production dropped for 2020, but he should bounce back. There is a hint of uncertainty in how the surgery will affect his performance for next season.
