Knicks Waive Brandon Jennings To Sign Chasson Randle, Per Report

The New York Knicks waived point guard Brandon Jennings early Monday, a source confirmed to The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears.

Knicks Waive Brandon Jennings, Set to Sign Chasson Randle

Jennings’ waiving, first reported by The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, comes during his first season with the Knicks, with whom he signed in the offseason to back up Derrick Rose.

Jennings played 48 games for New York this year, and averaged 8.6 points and a team-high 4.9 assists on 38 percent shooting in 24.6 minutes per game. The 27-year-old recently told the Knicks he wished to play for a title contender, the source told The Undefeated.

The team thus attempted to trade him, but no deal emerged prior to the Feb. 23 deadline.

The guard thanked the Knicks organization on Twitter Monday morning.

The eight-year veteran previously played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic. He was an all-rookie first-team honoree with the Bucks in 2009-10.

Waiving Jennings will give New York at least $5 million in additional salary cap space this summer to sign free agents.

The Knicks will reportedly sign 24-year-old Chasson Randle later Monday to replace Jennings, a source stated, and he could play in Monday night’s game against Toronto.

Randle, who was recently released by the Philadelphia 76ers, is expected to sign for the rest of this season and have a partial guarantee for next season. He played well for the Knicks during the preseason, although the team waived him after he suffered a broken orbital bone shortly before the start of the regular season. He then played eight games with the 76ers before being waived as part of the Nerlens Noel trade.
