Knicks Forward OG Anunoby Deserves More Recognition Following His Stellar Series Vs The Hawks

The New York Knicks are moving on to the second round of the NBA playoffs after throttling the Atlanta Hawks in game six – the game was over in the second quarter after the Knicks got out to a 72-22 lead with four minutes left in the first half, the largest halftime lead in playoff history.

After falling down two games to one against the Hawks, the Knicks responded by winning three straight and absolutely dominating in those games. The standout player of the series for the Knicks wasn’t Jalen Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns, but OG Anunoby, who led the Knicks in game six with 29 points while shooting 11 of 14 from the field.

Anunoby ended the series averaging 21.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 1.8 steals per game, all while shooting 61% from the field and an unbelievable 60% from beyond the arc.

The Knicks acquired Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors just under three years ago, sending R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley in exchange for the forward.

His head coach, Mike Brown, said that he was “phenomenal” and that “he rebounded his behind off.”

During the second quarter, the Knicks fans who made the trip to Atlanta serenaded Anunoby with “O-G” chants as they were well on their way to a victory.

“We just came out with intensity,” said Anunoby after the game.

“We were ready to play from the very jump … We know what we’re capable of. We know we’re a great team. We just need to continue to do it.”

Anunoby is one of the most important players in the league, and the Knicks have proven they win a lot when he plays his best on both ends of the court.
