LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA - OCTOBER 11: LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers celebrates with Quinn Cook #28 of the Los Angeles Lakers and teammates after winning the 2020 NBA Championship in Game Six of the 2020 NBA Finals at AdventHealth Arena at the ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex on October 11, 2020 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
One Lakers legend has taken another to task over the latter’s handling of the Covid-19 situation.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar criticized LeBron James Sunday afternoon for supporting Golden State’s Andrew Wiggins’ vaccination trepidation as well as for sharing an Instagram meme that trivialized the coronavirus as the flu or common cold.
Though he did offer praise for James’ incredible philanthropic efforts and say he’d like to sit down with The King to talk about it, Abdul-Jabbar didn’t hold back.
“I wouldn’t mind doing it if he would take the time; I definitely got the time,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “I admire the things that he’s done that have gotten all our attention. Sending a whole school to college? Wow. That’s amazing.

“His thoughtfulness and willingness to back it up with his wallet, you got to give him credit for that. So I’m not throwing stones. I just wish he wouldn’t … you know, some of the things he’s done, he should be embarrassed about. That’s just where I’m coming from.”
Another bone of contention for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer was James’ November in-game celebration that was deemed obscene by the league and warranted a fine.
“I think he has so much going for him in terms of respect and accomplishment and he shouldn’t stoop to those moments,” Abdul-Jabbar said.
The comments were made as the retired Laker was attending an NBA event unveiling a social justice trophy with his name.
As of Monday morning, Abdul-Jabbar sits at 38,387 points with James on his tail at 37,062.
