Kansas City Chiefs’ Attorney Says ‘There’s A Moment For Kansas To Step Up’ For Potential Move

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently in a high-stakes decision that could see them leaving Missouri for Kansas, a move that would reshape the region’s sports landscape.

The team has been relatively quiet about the potential relocation, but recent developments indicate a growing interest in Kansas as a viable option.

During a recent hearing before the Kansas legislature, Chiefs attorney Korb Maxwell made a statement that hinted at the team’s openness to a move, “Missouri spoke. Jackson County spoke. They had their opportunity. But now, there’s a moment for Kansas to step up and an option for us all here.”

This statement followed the passage of a bill by both houses of the Kansas legislature to provide state bonds to help finance new stadiums and practice facilities for the Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. The bill is now awaiting the governor’s signature, and there are no indications that a veto is forthcoming.

The Chiefs are using the possibility of a move to Kansas as leverage. By having Kansas as an “option,” the team may be pushing Missouri to create the necessary funds to renovate Arrowhead Stadium. This strategic maneuvering suggests that the Chiefs are looking for the best possible deal to enhance their facilities, whether that comes from Missouri or Kansas.

If the Chiefs do move, it would be a significant win for Kansas, gaining a central professional sports team and all the economic benefits that come with it. On the other hand, Missouri would face the loss of a beloved franchise and its financial impact.

Regardless of the outcome, the Chiefs are poised to benefit from the competition between the two states, ensuring they secure the best possible situation for the team’s future.
