With an 11-6 record, good enough to win the AFC West for the eighth straight season. Kudos go to the defense for Kansas City’s Super Bowl 58 run, as they allowed only 15.8 points per game on average despite their opponents having top-scoring offenses in the regular season. Patrick Mahomes won Super Bowl MVP, completing 34/46 passes and throwing for 333 yards while tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Following the Super Bowl, Jerick Mckinnon, Richie James and Willie Gay did not sign new contracts and became free agents. Super Bowl 58 hero Mecole Hardman left the Chiefs on June 6, while Marquez-Valdes Scantling was released and signed with the Buffalo Bills. Former Cardinals wideout Marquise Brown was signed to fill Valdes Scantling’s void, while Matt Ariza was brought in to replace punter Tommy Townsend as he went to the Texans. The Chiefs picked up Carson Wentz to provide Mahomes with a backup.
Kansas City originally had the 32nd overall pick in the draft, but they traded the selection to the Bills to move up four spots to 28. The Chiefs used the pick to select Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy adds to a revamped receiving core centered around speediness since the Chiefs’ receivers struggled last season to connect on big plays. The rest of the draft saw the Chiefs acquire players to fill the depth chart – some picks include Kingsley Suamataia and Jaden Hicks.
The Chiefs have the NFL’s sixteenth toughest schedule going into the 2024 season.

The later opponents mark three consecutive prime-time games for the Chiefs. Other notable games include the 49ers, Buccaneers, Bills, Texans, and Steelers and annual games between the Broncos, Chargers and Raiders.
2024 is no different than the past two seasons. Kansas City is a favorite to be a finalist for Super Bowl 59—they have +600 odds to win. That means expectations are sky-high, and the Chiefs have pressure to deliver. Luckily, their schedule is in their favor, with tons of winnable games. However, in any given week, good teams lose.
