JT Daniels To Transfer To Georgia, How He Can Earn The Starting Job

One of the biggest questions for the University of Georgia’s football program after the 2019 season was how will they replace Jake Fromm who declared for the draft. Fromm had led the Bulldogs to the National Championship in 2017, and then to the Sugar Bowl in both 2018 and 2019 giving him a 2-2 record in bowl games. On Thursday, the Bulldogs might have found Fromm’s replacement.

Former USC quarterback JT Daniels transferred to Georgia on Thursday, announcing it in a post on his social media accounts.

Daniels will not be handed the starting job for the Bulldogs as former Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman transferred to Georgia since the conclusion of last season. During his freshman season. Daniels started 11 games for USC, throwing for 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was slated as the starter going into the 2019 season, but a torn ACL and meniscus in the first game of the season ended his season.

Despite the injury, Daniels is a very intriguing player and could bring a lot to the Bulldogs’ offense. Daniels is 6’3”, around 215 pounds with a rocket arm. Daniels has a quick release, which allows him to make a lot of short throws. The issue is the deep throws for Daniels simply because he has to wait for the play to develop. He is not one to move around and scramble, make plays with his legs, which makes him somewhat limited. Daniels also at times can make some questionable decisions of the field, throwing passes that probably shouldn’t be thrown. If anyone can mold Daniels into a pro-style quarterback, it is Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
