Jon Rahm Beats Dustin Johnson At Socially Distanced BMW Championship

The BMW Championship ended in a thriller on Sunday with the tour’s hottest golfer Jon Rahm facing off against tour veteran Dustin Johnson in an exciting series of back nine holes. Johnson hit a 45-yard putt that would have sent the tournament into a playoff while, simultaneously, just a few holes away Rahm hit an even longer putt to win the tournament outright.

“I played an unbelievable putt, got in the playoff and then Jon made an even more ridiculous putt on top of me,” said Johnson, who at least kept his No. 1 ranking in the world and in the FedEx Cup.

“That stretch of waiting for DJ, him making the putt, going in the playoff, me making the putt, then trying to stay mentally in it just in case he made the last putt, it’s been a roller coaster, but so much fun,” Rahm said.

This is another installment in what has been thrilling PGA tour so far this year. It seems that across all sports having no fans has had little affect on the play of the athletes and some would even argue improve that. This has certainly been the case with golf and the NBA. With the NFL coming back in a few weeks, it will be interesting to see whether or not the stadium rock concert of sports can look the same with no fans in the stadium to rock.
