Jets’ Zach Wilson Gets A Rare Win Against Texans Amid Trade Rumors

Two weeks after being relegated to the third-string quarterback, the New York Jets’ Zach Wilson got a rare win as starting QB on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

The final score was a lopsided 30-6.

“Zach gives us our best chance to win. And we’re giving him another opportunity to go prove that…He was good. He was fired up. Like I said on Monday, he came into my office and wants the ball and he’s excited about getting this opportunity to finish this,” head coach Robert Saleh said, explaining his decision to start Wilson.

Wilson regaining the starting job comes after a report that suggested the quarterback was “reluctant” to take back the starting position.

“I’ve never once said that to anybody in this locker room, that I wouldn’t want to play,” he said.

Wilson was put into the starting quarterback position for the Jets after an injury to Aaron Rodgers during Week 1 of the NFL season. Wilson was benched for Tim Boyle, who, after two poor starts, was benched midway through the Atlanta Falcons game for Trevor Siemian.

In his two games as a Jets starter, Boyle was 41 of 63 for 327 yards, where he had one touchdown and three interceptions.

Wilson, who was the Number 2 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has largely struggled throughout his NFL career. In the 2023 season, he has completed 59.2% of his passes for 1,944 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Before Sunday’s game, reports were circulating that Wilson would be traded in the off-season.
