Jets Reportedly Inquired About Davante Adams & Mike Evans

Rumors coming out of the NFL trade deadline suggest that the Jets inquired about wide receivers Davante Adams and Mike Evans but did not receive much interest in return. The team was rather quiet, but general manager Joe Douglas claims that he was busy as the deadline approached.

“I won’t get into specific conversations but I will say that we had a lot of talks with a lot of teams on a lot of players at a lot of different positions,” Douglas told reporters Tuesday. “Ultimately, at the end of the day, we did what we felt was best for the team. We’re excited about the guys we have.”

The Jets were in an interesting position ahead of the trade deadline, as they seemed to be in contention despite themselves at times. While the team has earned massive wins over the Bills and Eagles, Zach Wilson has struggled at times at quarterback, including during a pitiful Week 8 game against the Giants that the team arguably should have lost.

But despite Wilson, who is occasionally brilliant but stagnant at other times, the team’s defense has been elite, shutting down some of the best quarterbacks in the league. New York is 4-3 at roughly the halfway point of the season, which should have made them buyers at the deadline. Instead, they didn’t do much of anything, instead falling back on their current roster. It is somewhat surprising that a player like Adams could not be wrested away from the Raiders, as he has consistently voiced his displeasure with his current situation.

“There need to be buyers, there need to be sellers,” Douglas said. “We made a lot of inquiries and had a lot of discussions about a lot of different positions but ultimately didn’t get any other deals done. That’s where we are.”

Though the Jets could have benefitted significantly from upgrades at several positions, particularly on offense, the team remains one to watch as the season progresses. Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall have buoyed their quarterback’s production at opportune times. Meanwhile, Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner lead one of the best defenses the team has ever had. All is not yet lost.
