Haason Reddick‘s decision to hold out from training camp and request a trade before playing one snap as a New York Jet befuddled many around the league. Now, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave his opinion on the saga revolving around the defensive end.
“I’ve been around 20 years; I’ve seen a lot of stuff. I think as players we always first try to side with the player because we know what it’s like to be a player,” Rodgers said. “I don’t know him well. I had a couple messages with him, I believe, when he got traded. Obviously, we’d love him to be here, but we don’t judge him for trying to do what’s best for him. I think what’s best for him is to be a Jet because this is going to be a fun ride. But he’s got to make the best decision for him and his family.”
Head coach Robert Saleh, who holds a defensive background, also discussed his emotions recently.
“It’s not frustrating because I don’t control it. But we’re excited about our [defensive line] group. We’re still looking forward for him to get here when he’s ready. When he’s ready, we’ll embrace him with open arms, and we’ll attack the moments that he brings us.”

Reddick spent the last two seasons in Philadelphia and posted career numbers as an Eagle after struggling as a first-round pick in his previous seasons. The Jets traded for him during the off-season as the Eagles wanted to allow DE Bryce Huff more snaps. Reddick came to New York entering the final year of his three-year $45 million contract, which he signed in 2022. While reports say the Jets made a contract offer shortly after the trade, the sides are far apart. Reddick believes he should be paid as a top-of-the-market edge rusher, and general manager Joe Douglas seems reluctant to spend. Reddick has missed all of training camp and pre-season action so far.
