Jayden Reed May Not Return This Season After Neck Injury Sustained During Week 2

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed exited the game against the New York Jets in the first quarter. He was injured on the second play from scrimmage when he caught a ball for 4 yards before Jets defender Demario Davis attempted to tackle him and Kingsley Enagbare came in to complete the tackle.

Reed was caught with a blow to the neck and back area from Enagbare’s tackle that resulted in the player’s injury. The game would stop immediately after the tackle, and after a few minutes, both teams’ personnel were able to get Reed off the field.

Medical staff eventually placed him on a backboard and secured a strap over his helmet to stabilize his head and neck before placing him on the cart and driving him off the field.  After the game, Reed went to the social media platform X and posted, “Doing much better, appreciate all the prayers and support.” 

During the game, the Packers said Reed suffered a back injury, but after their overtime win, they later determined it was a neck injury. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said the receiver could move all of his extremities.  

Reed stayed in a New York hospital overnight for testing and observation before returning to Green Bay on Tuesday. 

“It’s way too early for that right now. … He’s got a lot going on,” LaFleur said when asked whether Reed will play again this season.

Reed missed 10 games last season after suffering a broken collarbone in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders. He also had surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his foot.

In the offseason, Reed signed a three-year, $50 million extension with the team. The Packers’ injury problems from last season still linger as they lose another key piece.
