Jameis Winston Visited Roger Goodell Last Week

In a story that went below the radar, potential first overall pick Jameis Winston visited Roger Goodell and the NFL’s New York offices last Thursday, according to MMQB with Peter King.

He reportedly visited the NFL’s Park Avenue offices to speak with the commissioner, meet with NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent and to talk about his on and off-the-field resources once he is drafted.

One of Winston’s agents, Greg Grenske, told the website that Winston initiated the meeting to disprove any negative images of him.  “It was more of an informational/educational meeting than anything else — though Winston did get his chance to tell his story to Goodell,” he said.

The draft prospect wanted the meeting to talk to the commissioner about his checkered past: throughout his two seasons as the Florida State quarterback, he was accused of sexual assault, given a summons for stealing seafood from a grocery store and suspended a game for yelling an inappropriate comment during a student assembly.

“He went out of his way to make a good impression, and to show that he understood what was going to be expected of him in the NFL,” one league executive, who was present at the meetings, told MMQB.

After the meeting, he shut down his Twitter account, but still has Instagram. He is currently expected to go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
