Jameis Winston Plans to Not Attend NFL Draft

Former Florida State quarterback and possible #1 draft pick Jameis Winston may not go to the 2015 NFL Draft. At the moment, Winston is preferring to spend draft day with his family and friends in Alabama, according to a statement from his father to ESPN. The plan has not been finalized and could change between now and draft day.

Winston, the 2013 Heisman winner, had recently met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and other league officials. Winston’s time at Florida State was highlighted by his on-field performances, including a national championship, but also marred by his off-field antics. Those incidents ranged from the comical theft of lobster tails at a supermarket to the very serious allegations of rape. Winston has said he’s working on his off-field behavior and that it shouldn’t be an issue on where he gets drafted, but has created a media firestorm around him.

The NFL Draft will be held April 30th to May 2nd in Chicago. Winston is currently projected to land somewhere within the top 5, with the spot depending on which mock draft you take a look at. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hold the #1 overall pick this year.
