Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. has publicly apologized for his involvement in a fistfight between two women, who were identified by TMZ as the mother of his child and his current girlfriend.
TMZ recently released the video of the fight, which appears to show Fowler, 21, acting as a referee as the two women hit each other, making no clear attempt to separate them. The fight reportedly took place in a public area at an apartment complex in Florida earlier this month, on Feb. 1, according to TMZ Sports.
“I am embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved,” Fowler said in statement. “As a family, we have been dealing with this moment and the conflict that led to it since this occurred. The video surfacing is a sad reminder that emotions got the best of all of us. I take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happened.”
The Jaguars also released a statement: “Dante brought the incident to our attention prior to the video released and was embarrassed and remorseful. Violence of this type against others is unacceptable in our society and to our organization. We will continue to look into the incident while offering resources and providing support to Dante and his family to help them through this private matter.”

“These are disturbing images, and we will review the matter,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy also added.
Fowler was selected third overall in the 2015 NFL Draft, but missed his first season with the Jaguars after he tore his ACL on the first day of minicamp in May. Less than a week after the injury, the Jaguars gave Fowler a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $23.5 million.
