Indiana Pacers’ Chris Copeland Stabbed Outside Of New York Club

Indiana Pacers’ Chris Copeland is in stable condition after being stabbed outside New York City’s 1 Oak Club. The player was in town with Indiana to take on the terrible New York Knicks.

The incident started when he was outside the club talking to his former girlfriend Katrine Saltara. When a man identified as Shezoy Bleary approached them, Copeland asked him to leave. Then the suspect allegedly pulled out his knife and attacked the Pacer player, according to ESPN’s sources.

Copeland suffered stab wounds to his abdomen and left elbow and fractured said elbow — which requires surgery — according to a statement from the Pacers. Katrine Saltara and a third women, who may have been with the attacker, also received knife wounds when trying to help Copeland. The two female victims are in stable condition.

“We are aware that Chris Copeland was injured early this morning in New York City,” Larry Bird said in a statement. “We are still gathering information and will update when we know more. Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured.”

On top of this, Atlanta Hawks players Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha were also arrested at 1 Oak for obstruction. They allegedly blocked police from starting their investigation, according to ESPN. The first place Hawks were in town playing the struggling Brooklyn Nets.

“We are aware of the situation involving Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha this morning,” Garin Narain, the Hawks’ VP of public relations, stated. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”

Copeland will likely miss the rest of the season as the Pacers are currently fighting for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference — they currently sit a game behind the Celtics. Copeland averaged 6.2 PPG and 2.2 RPG in 50 games during the 2014-15 season.
