Adrian Foster, Houston Texans’ running back, has been perennially injured, and his recent groin injury on August 4 is no exception.
While Foster is currently consulting with doctors about his injury, it is unclear when he will be ready to suit up and resume play. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network has noted that the team is very concerned that the groin injury may evolve into a hernia. Regardless of its severity, surgery for the athlete seems like a forthcoming action due to his constant propensity to getting injured.
If Foster is unable to play during this upcoming season, it will be a letdown for the Texans as continuing discussions about the consistency of quarterbacks Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer, will be setback due to Foster’s reliability at his position.
Even with all of his injuries preventing blowout performances in his division, he managed to gain 1200 rushing yards each season since 2010 (which he’s excused for, being he had an injured back.) And even last season, while pushing past his persisting hamstring injury, which caused him to miss three games, Foster managed 1578 yards with 14 touchdowns.
As his production running the ball is increasingly high, it comes as no surprise that coach Bill O’Brien wants him to continue doing what he excels at, saying that, “Well, we have a very good running back, so you can rest assured that as long as he’s healthy and he’s out there, we will run the ball. I can tell you that. That’s one thing we will do.”

But he may be disappointed, as if Foster goes through with the surgery, he may not be able to return this season. If this occurs, his replacement Alfred Blue will fill his position – and that may not be a good thing. Last season, Blue had 169 attempts, but only managed 528 yards with two touchdowns. If it’s any consolation to fans, he didn’t have any fumbles.
If Foster doesn’t return in tip top shape and remains there for the season, then the Texan’s chances at a playoff run will slowly dry out.
