Game of Thrones star Hafthór Björnsson, aka “The Mountain,” became a geek sensation last year for his head-crushing scene with the “Red Viper.” Since then, the massive actor — towering at 6’9″ and weighing in at over 400 pounds — has become an internet sensation by showing his ridiculous strength.
And his latest feat — in the midst of the World’s Strongest Viking competition — destroyed a 1,000 year old record: according to Viking history, Orm Storulfsson carried a 30-foot-long 1,410 pound Viking mast on his shoulders for three steps before being crushed by the weight.
Hafthór decided to just tarnish that achievement by repeating the feat with a heavier log: he then proceeded to lift a 1,433-pound log and walked a whooping five steps. This feat resulted him in winning another World’s Strongest Viking title and he sets his sights on the World’s Strongest Man next: the last two years he has placed in the top three, but has been unable to secure a victory.
