Giants CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his two-interception, one-sack, three-tackle performance in the team’s 19-10 Week 17 victory in Washington on Sunday.

Giants CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

The Giants– who finished the regular season with an 11-5 record– played most of their starters the entire game and maintained a 13-10 lead in the final two minutes of the contest over a Redskins team that needed a win to advance to the playoffs.

Rodgers-Cromartie’s late interception of Kirk Cousins’ pass ultimately sealed the game.

The corner is the third different Giants player to win the award this season, joining Jason Pierre-Paul and Landon Collins, who was honored twice.

That makes four total NFC defensive player of the week awards in 17 NFL game weeks for the league’s second-ranked defense.

The Giants also had two players win a total of three Special Teams Player of the Week awards (Brad Wing twice and Janoris Jenkins), and Odell Beckham, Jr. won the award once on offense.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 30, has now won weekly honors with three different teams– the Cardinals and Broncos being the other two– and the Giants hope he can keep up his strong playing in Green Bay this Sunday, a wild-card game.
