German Soccer League Bundesliga Eyeing To Resume Season On May 16 – Without Fans

Soccer in Europe has been absent for a while now because of the coronavirus. That is most likely going to change, as the Bundesliga in Germany is set to become the first major league in Europe to resume play.

The German government has allowed for the league to resume, with the play beginning on May 16. Germany has banned all mass gatherings until August 31, so there will be no fans in the stadium.

In a statement by Bundesliga representative, Christian Seifert, he says that the league has a great responsibility in resuming its season. “It is associated with a great responsibility for the clubs and their employees to implement the medical and organizational requirements in a disciplined manner,” Seifert said. “Matches without stadium spectators are not an ideal solution for anyone. However, during this crisis, which threatens the existence of some clubs, it is the only option to preserve the leagues in their present form. Today I’d like to thank the decision-makers at the state and federal level for placing their confidence in us.”

Teams in the Bundesliga have been practicing in small groups since April in the event that the season did resume. The league has only nine games remaining on its schedule and is committed to finishing its season by the end of June.

Across Europe, leagues have been canceled for the season in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, while in Italy, England, and Spain, leagues in those countries are hoping for a return sometime in June.
